House of Donn Pepper Sauce
This edgy hot sauce brand pays tribute to the tale of Donn, the God of the dead in Irish mythology, and his mythical home at Bull Rock Island, also known as the House of Donn.
Embracing the essence of the legend, black commands attention as the primary color, bringing in some mystery and darkness. To convey the strength and intensity in each bottle of hot sauce, as well as represent the bold legend, accents of red and a mix of textures are used throughout the branding.
Logo Design
Inspired by the island and the ocean surrounding it, I designed each letter of the logo to be wavy with rough textures, which also served to make the brand feel more gritty. Additionally, I made the letter āDā the shape of a chili pepper.
The Myth
Bull Rock Island, called the House of Donn in the legend, sits off the west coast of Ireland. It is believed that the the island is a place for the souls of the dead to gather and the passage beneath it, known as The Gateway, leads to the underworld.
Label Designs
To make it easier for someone to find their perfect sauce, I created a user-friendly heat indicator utilizing simple icons, labels, and common colors rather than using the Scoville rating. I also provided brief descriptions of each sauce on the labels.
The Triskele
The Triskele, among the oldest Celtic symbols, represents the three realms: the physical, the spiritual, and the celestial. It is featured on both the mildest and spiciest garlic hot sauces, symbolizing the journey one embarks on while leveling up in heat.
